AWL Agri Business shares jumped nearly 4% on Tuesday, hitting a day's high of ₹183 on NSE after reporting robust Q2 FY27 results. The company delivered 24% revenue growth and 12% volume growth year-on-year, driven by strong performance across multiple business segments. According to the latest exchange filing, this performance was led by strong momentum in the Food & FMCG portfolio and Industry Essentials, while the Edible Oil business delivered steady volume growth. The company's numbers also exceeded Nuvama Institutional Equities' Q2 estimates of 6% volume growth and 14% revenue growth, with growth rates significantly higher than the 7% volume and 18% revenue growth recorded in the year-ago quarter.
The company's Food & FMCG business achieved a significant milestone, recording 33% year-on-year revenue growth with quarterly revenue crossing ₹2,000 crore for the first time in the company's history. Wheat and Rice businesses delivered robust growth during the quarter, while categories such as Besan, Pulses, Soya Nuggets, Sugar, Sattu and Poha, which now contribute more than 35% to the Food portfolio, recorded around 50% year-on-year revenue growth. Pulses remain an important focus category given its large addressable market, high frequency of consumption and strong adjacency with the company's existing Daily Essentials portfolio. Fortune Pulses has scaled rapidly, with quarterly revenue crossing ₹100 crore, and the company is accelerating distribution across General Trade and Quick Commerce channels to build the category further. The Madhur Sugar deal could provide another leg to the food strategy, with management targeting higher volumes through the year using the company's distribution network to scale the licensed brand.
AWL expanded its distribution network across general trade and quick commerce channels, with Fortune Pulses crossing ₹100 crore in quarterly revenue. Within Food & FMCG, key categories continued to gain traction across E-Commerce and Quick Commerce, collectively delivering 40% YoY growth. The company also launched Fortune Yellow Mustard Oil during the quarter, strengthening its presence across premium regional oil preferences. Recent premium launches including Sharbati Atta, Multigrain Atta, Double Roasted Suji, Fortune Premio Olive Oil, and Fortune Premio Cold-Pressed Mustard Oil continue to scale effectively, centered around premiumization, health and value-added offerings within the core daily essentials portfolio.
The Industry Essentials business recorded 25% year-on-year volume growth, driven by Oleochemicals, Castor and De-oiled Cakes. As reported by the company, the Government implemented standardized pack sizes for edible oils effective from September 2026, leading to the phasing out of grammage-based pricing practices in the industry. This is a positive structural development, enhancing transparency and comparability for consumers and enabling a more level playing field across market participants. The Edible Oil business recorded 3% year-on-year volume growth, led by domestic oils including Mustard Oil and Rice Bran Oil. While improved from the previous quarter's 2% volume growth, growth remains below the 5-6% volume expansion management had indicated for the year, with management attributing previous weakness to volatility, supply-chain disruptions and a dried-up primary pipeline.
Branded Exports recorded 59% volume growth, while the HoReCa business grew 21% during the quarter. GD Foods, which operates the Tops brand, reported more than 30% year-on-year revenue growth in Q2 FY27. Omkar Chemicals, which focuses on specialty chemicals, recorded 16% volume growth. In FY26, edible oil contributed 80% of AWL's overall revenue, while food and FMCG, and industry essentials contributed 9% and 11%, respectively. The divergence across segments is visible, with the food and FMCG business targeting 18-20% revenue growth for the year, while alternate channels continue to gain traction.
Despite strong revenue growth, margin pressure remains a key concern for AWL Agri's earnings recovery. Nuvama expects Q2 Ebitda to decline around 8% year-on-year, with the margin falling 100 basis points to 2.9%. This contrasts with Q1's reported Ebitda increase of 90% year-on-year and normalized Ebitda rise of about 34%. J.P. Morgan India analysts noted that while they are encouraged by Q1 results, they prefer to stay on the sidelines given edible-oil volatility and the need for sustained margin delivery in foods. AWL's shares are down around 30% over the past year to ₹183, with the Q2 update suggesting that food and FMCG and alternate channels are driving growth, but sustained recovery in edible oil volumes and continued expansion of the food business remain crucial variables for the stock.
