The United States Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) has classified the inspection outcome at Aurobindo Pharma's facility as 'Official Action Indicated' (OAI). According to reports, the USFDA conducted an inspection at Unit-I, a formulation manufacturing facility of the company's wholly owned subsidiary, Eugia Pharma Specialities, located in Kolthur Village, Shameerpet Mandal, Ranga Reddy district, Telangana between February 16 and February 27, 2026. Following the inspection, the regulator issued four observations to the facility. The company has stated that there is currently no impact on its financials or operations from this regulatory action, and reiterated its commitment to maintaining high manufacturing quality standards while keeping investors informed of any further developments. The company received the formal communication regarding the OAI classification on May 23, 2026.
Earlier this month, Aurobindo Pharma reported modest financial results for Q4FY26. As reported, the company achieved a modest 2% year-on-year increase in consolidated net profit to ₹921 crore, while revenue from operations rose 5.6% to ₹8,853 crore. The company's EBITDA increased marginally by 0.5% to ₹1,801 crore, though EBITDA margins declined to 20.3% from 21.4% in the corresponding quarter last year.
The company has announced a significant share buyback program as part of its capital allocation strategy. According to reports, Aurobindo Pharma announced a share buyback of up to ₹800 crore through the tender offer route, with the buyback opening on April 23 and closing on April 29. The buyback was approved by the board on April 6 and is planned to repurchase up to 54,23,728 fully paid-up equity shares with a face value of Re 1 each at a buyback price of ₹1,475 per share on a proportionate basis.
The FDA's OAI classification signals that regulatory follow-up actions are likely at the Eugia Unit-I site, which could affect future approvals or output from this facility if not remediated promptly. However, Aurobindo's assertion of no immediate financial or operational impact suggests that the issue may be contained for now, though stakeholders will closely watch how swiftly and effectively the company addresses the agency's observations. The company operates as a Hyderabad-based pharmaceutical manufacturer with a global footprint, focusing on formulation manufacturing and supplying generic medicines to regulated markets, including the U.S., where compliance with stringent regulatory standards is critical to its business operations. The US FDA's inspection and subsequent classification are part of its regulatory oversight to ensure compliance with manufacturing practices.
