
According to the latest exchange filing, Aurobindo Pharma delivered exceptional Q1 FY27 results with consolidated net profit surging 25.2% to ₹1,032 crore compared to ₹824 crore in the previous financial year. The company achieved a record quarterly revenue of ₹9,105.82 crore, representing a 16.86% year-on-year increase from ₹7,791.77 crore. The Hyderabad-headquartered drug maker's operating EBITDA rose 20% year-on-year to ₹1,924 crore, with EBITDA margin expanding 60 basis points to 21%, marking the highest-ever quarterly revenue and net profit for the company. The strong financial performance was supported by rupee depreciation benefits, with the company marginally exceeding Street estimates of 20.5% and beating CNBC-TV18 poll estimates of ₹982 crore for profit and ₹9,030 crore for revenue.
The company's operational efficiency showed significant improvement with operating EBITDA growing 20% to ₹1,924 crore compared to ₹1,603 crore in the year-ago period. Operating margin expanded to 21% from 20%, indicating enhanced operational efficiency during the quarter. Other income contributed positively with ₹264 crore versus ₹105 crore in the previous year. However, gross margin impact from higher freight costs is expected to be a key focus area for investors and analysts going forward. The company also met analyst estimates on the operational front, with quarterly margin expanding by 60 basis points to 21.0%, exceeding Zee Business analysts' pegged margin of 20.6%. Macquarie noted that the earnings beat was largely attributed to lower R&D expenditure, which fell to around 3% of revenue from 4.4% a year ago, supporting profitability without relying on cost reductions.
The pharmaceutical firm demonstrated strong operational performance across key markets with revenue from the US increasing 8.1% year-on-year to ₹3,770 crore for the June quarter. During the quarter, Aurobindo Pharma launched 10 products in the US market and received final approvals from the US Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) for 10 products, driving growth primarily through volume expansion and new product launches. The company's European operations emerged as the strongest-performing major geography, with revenue rising 26% year-on-year to ₹2,937 crore, accounting for 32.1% of consolidated revenue. The company attributed this growth to robust demand across its key European markets. Revenue from growth markets climbed 38.7% year-on-year to ₹1,063 crore, supported by strong performance across key geographies and contributing 11.6% of consolidated revenue. Total API revenue grew 15% to ₹1,049 crore, with the formulations business growing 16.5% year-on-year to ₹8,101 crore, while the ARV business remained broadly stable at ₹330 crore during the quarter.
The company announced a significant corporate restructuring with the board approving the merger of step-down subsidiaries Eugia Steriles Pvt. Ltd. and Eugia SEZ Pvt. Ltd. with wholly owned subsidiary Eugia Pharma Specialities Ltd., subject to approval from the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT). All three entities manufacture injectable pharmaceutical products, and the amalgamation is intended to simplify the group structure by consolidating similar businesses under a single entity while eliminating overlapping corporate and administrative functions and generating operational synergies. The company ended the June quarter with a net cash position of $42 million (₹397 crore), including investments, despite funding the $247 million acquisition of Lannett and an $85 million share buyback, reflecting its strong cash generation capabilities.
