Drug firm AstraZeneca Pharma India Ltd reported robust financial results for the second quarter of FY27, with net profit increasing 14.95% year-on-year to ₹62.33 crore compared with ₹54.22 crore in the corresponding quarter last year, according to the company's regulatory filing. Revenue from operations grew 30.4% to ₹729.1 crore from ₹559.09 crore in the year-ago period. The company's total expenses for the quarter were ₹640.77 crore compared to ₹487.15 crore in the previous year, reflecting higher operational costs during the quarter. For the first half of FY27, AstraZeneca Pharma achieved revenue from operations of ₹14,118.9 million, registering 30% growth compared with the corresponding period of the previous financial year, as reported by CNBC TV18. The company attributed this growth to consistent performance across its oncology, biopharmaceuticals and rare disease therapy areas. The strong half-year performance demonstrates the company's ability to maintain growth momentum across its key therapeutic segments, with half-year profit after tax at ₹1,002.6 million compared to ₹1,100.5 million in H1FY26.
During the quarter, AstraZeneca Pharma received three new regulatory approvals for key products, according to CNBC TV18. The approvals include trastuzumab deruxtecan in multiple breast cancer treatment settings, benralizumab for patients aged 12 years and older with hypereosinophilic syndrome (HES) without an identifiable non-haematologic secondary cause, and acalabrutinib for patients with chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL). The oncology segment contributed ₹5,085 million to Q2 revenue, up from ₹3,978 million in Q2FY26, while biopharmaceuticals contributed ₹1,610 million and rare diseases ₹204 million. The company also received approval for trastuzumab deruxtecan for adults with HER2-positive early breast cancer who have residual invasive disease following neoadjuvant treatment.
AstraZeneca Pharma India announced a significant leadership change during the quarter, with Atul Tandon appointed as the new Chief Financial Officer effective November 9, as reported in the company's regulatory filing. This appointment represents a key strategic move as the company continues to strengthen its financial leadership team. The company's strategic partnerships and initiatives during the quarter included signing MoUs with the Government of Andhra Pradesh to build a 360-degree oncology care model and establish an Integrated Genomic Solutions Centre, and signing an MoU with the Government of Telangana to introduce AI-enabled lung cancer screening across public healthcare facilities.
The company's Q2FY27 results were announced post market hours, with shares of AstraZeneca Pharma India Ltd settling at ₹6,294.90 apiece on the BSE, down 1.10% on the day of announcement. The stock decline occurred despite the company's strong quarterly financial performance and positive regulatory developments, indicating mixed market sentiment toward the pharmaceutical sector. The results included exceptional items of ₹149.6 million, comprising costs related to the closure of a manufacturing site and a provision of ₹156.1 million towards interest on improvement charges demanded by Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP). The BBMP had issued a notice on August 7, 2014, demanding ₹70.8 million as improvement charges for the company's factory land.
