Commercial vehicle major Ashok Leyland reported a 24% year-on-year growth in total sales during October 2026, with total domestic vehicle sales reaching 20,224 units. The Chennai-based automaker's performance demonstrates robust demand across its commercial vehicle portfolio, with the latest data showing total sales including exports rose 22% to 1,35,328 units from 1,11,174 units in the corresponding period last year. As per the company's Regulation 30 disclosure filed on November 2, 2026, total domestic and export vehicle sales reached 21,888 units, representing a 23% year-on-year increase from 17,820 units recorded in October 2025.
The company's performance was driven by strong growth across both commercial vehicle segments. Sales in the Medium and Heavy Commercial Vehicle (M&HCV) segment grew 28% to 13,927 units from 10,865 units in the previous year, with M&HCV Truck sales on a domestic-plus-export basis rising 41% year-on-year to 11,613 units against 8,257 units in October 2025. The Light Commercial Vehicle (LCV) segment registered a 14% rise to 7,961 units, indicating broad-based demand recovery across the company's product portfolio. For the April-October FY27 period, cumulative M&HCV truck sales grew 35% to 69,368 units, while LCV sales increased 20% to 49,800 units.
Domestic sales showed particularly strong momentum with total domestic sales rising 24% to 20,224 units from 16,314 units a year ago. The M&HCV segment achieved 32% growth to 12,646 units, while domestic LCV sales increased 13% to 7,578 units. The domestic M&HCV segment performance was particularly impressive, with truck sales climbing 39% to 11,102 units and bus sales declining 6% to 1,544 units. For the April-October FY27 period, domestic vehicle sales increased 24% to 1,26,101 units from 1,01,873 units in the corresponding period last year. The M&HCV Bus segment on a combined domestic-plus-export basis declined 11% in October 2026 to 2,314 units, compared with 2,608 units in October 2025.
The positive sales performance was reflected in the stock market, with Ashok Leyland shares trading at ₹147.91, up 2.13% on Monday, November 2, compared with the previous close of ₹144.82. The stock opened at ₹146.08, reflecting investor confidence in the company's strong operational performance. The price movement alone does not establish a direct link between the sales announcement and the stock's performance, but it indicates positive market sentiment towards the company's growth trajectory. The M&HCV Truck segment, typically a higher-margin category for commercial vehicle makers, posted strong sequential volume growth in both domestic and export channels during October 2026, contributing to the overall positive investor sentiment.
