Tata Group-owned airline Air India has expanded its Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) with the Indian Army to provide employment opportunities for beneficiaries from the Indian armed forces. The latest agreement extends the partnership to employment opportunities across seven airports, significantly scaling the initial scope. According to recent reports, the collaboration is structured around three key pillars—Employment, Empowerment, and Environment—and aims to expand long-term support systems for Veer Naris (war widows) and their dependents, while also enhancing educational and healthcare support infrastructure within the Army ecosystem.
The expanded programme now proposes to recruit up to 20 war widows and up to 40 children through Air India SATS Airport Services Private Limited (AISATS), with positions available across seven airports as part of the latest agreement. As reported by NDTV Profit, candidates will be considered for roles across airport operations including customer services, load and control, and ramp operations. The initiative includes vocational training infrastructure in 25 ASHA Schools, with 10 schools already part of the pilot program and 15 more to be included. The programme is expected to empower families of Indian forces in long-term ways by creating high-quality career opportunities in the aviation industry.
The vocational training program covers diverse disciplines including photography and visual storytelling, music, sports and performing arts, painting and creative expression, beauty and wellness, cooking and hospitality, electrical and technical skills, and boutique and tailoring. According to Air India's release, these training facilities will support experiential and applied learning across multiple sectors to build sustainable, job-ready talent. The programme aims to provide industry-relevant vocational training so that selected candidates will be job-ready by the time they enter into the industry, helping them identify career options that match their interests and abilities.
Under the environmental sustainability pillar, the partnership introduces battery-operated carts in Army hospitals to improve patient mobility and streamline internal transport services. As reported by recent sources, this initiative is expected to enhance efficiency and provide better care support for patients and visitors. The environmental focus complements the employment and empowerment initiatives, demonstrating the comprehensive nature of the collaboration's approach to supporting the Army fraternity.
P Balaji, Group Head Governance, Risk, Compliance and Corporate Affairs at Air India, emphasized that the collaboration reflects a shared purpose to contribute to nation-building efforts. Officials highlighted that the MoC reflects a broader commitment to holistic welfare for the Army fraternity, combining employment generation, skill development, and eco-friendly infrastructure upgrades. The initiative is expected to create long-term positive impacts for both serving personnel and their families, with the partnership being part of a larger nation-building initiative that brings dignity, empowerment and planetary impact.
