Air India announced on Thursday that it is extending its suspension of operations on the Tel Aviv-Delhi route until July 31, 2026. According to reports from PTI, a senior executive heading the airline's Israel operations confirmed that the schedule amendment was notified yesterday evening, with flights suspended due to the prevailing geopolitical situation. The leading Indian carrier had initially announced suspension until June end but decided to further extend operations due to continued geopolitical uncertainties in West Asia. As per PTI, the flights have been further suspended till 31 July due to the geopolitical situation.
The suspension comes amid the West Asia conflict that started in late February, which has created multiple headwinds for airlines including costlier fuel and airspace curbs. As reported by PTI, these operational challenges have pushed up airline costs significantly. The Indian carrier had previously announced in April to put operations on hold until the end of May, which is now further extended. Despite the ceasefire between the US and Iran holding for some time, uncertainties surrounding the West Asia situation have prompted most airlines to stop operating on the Tel Aviv route.
The suspension has created significant concerns for more than 40,000 Indians living in Israel who wish to travel to India for personal, professional, or family reasons, or to escape regional uncertainties. According to PTI, only a few international airlines have resumed operations, with Israeli carriers like El Al, IsraAir, Arkia and Air Haifa being among the limited options available. The limited flight options have resulted in heightened costs, which is a major concern among Indian workers seeking to travel abroad for work, vacation, or family visits.
