
According to the latest exchange filing, Aditya Birla Capital has approved a ₹4,000 crore fundraise via preferential allotment, with Aditya Birla Group investing ₹3,080 crore and International Finance Corporation (IFC) contributing ₹980 crore. The board approval allows promoters to raise their stake through the issuance of 11.24 crore warrants at ₹356.02 per share, including a premium of ₹346.02 per share. The preferential allotment is subject to approval from shareholders in an extraordinary general meeting scheduled for June 12. The proceeds will be utilized for meeting growth objectives, including augmentation of the capital base, funding requirements for lending business and other general corporate purposes, including investments in subsidiaries, joint ventures and associates.
As reported by the exchange filing, Grasim Industries will raise ₹2,880 crore from the total fundraise, increasing its shareholding from the current 52.27% to 53.08% post-issue. The company will also issue ₹200 crore worth of shares to Suryaja Investments and ₹920 crore to International Finance Corporation. Both companies currently hold no stake in the financial services firm. IFC's regional vice president for Asia and the Pacific, Sarvesh Suri, emphasized the multilateral financier's aim to help bring small businesses' ideas to life through the funding, stating they aim to expand access to responsible financing for entrepreneurs and businesses in job-rich sectors. IFC's Suri added that by leveraging ABCL's scale, over 1,50,000-strong MSME client base, and digital capabilities, they aim to enable entrepreneurs and businesses to invest, grow incomes, create more and better jobs, and strengthen local economies.
Group Chairman Kumar Mangalam Birla highlighted that financial services have become central to India's economic transformation, driving capital formation, expanding financial inclusion and supporting the formalisation of the economy at scale. He noted that as the sector evolves, institutions with diversified platforms, strong governance and technology-led execution are increasingly shaping the trajectory of growth. Vishakha Mulye, MD & CEO, stated that the capital infusion will enable the company to participate in growth opportunities in India, deepen customer engagement, and deliver digital-first solutions. She emphasized that 57% of the company's loan portfolio comprises business loans to SMEs, reflecting its focus on this segment. The company aims to build an inclusive financial ecosystem through seamless credit access and digital capabilities. Aditya Birla Capital has emerged as a key growth engine for the Aditya Birla Group, supported by expansion across lending, investments, insurance and payments businesses. Between FY23 and FY26, the company's lending portfolio across NBFC and housing finance businesses grew at a compounded annual growth rate of 30% to more than ₹2 trillion. Combined assets under management across asset management and insurance businesses rose at an 18% CAGR to about ₹5.9 lakh crore. The company's total gross premiums across insurance businesses increased at a 21% CAGR to ₹31,634 crore, while consolidated profit after tax, excluding exceptional items, grew at a 23% CAGR to ₹3,797 crore in FY26. The company maintains a strong market position with a non-bank lender portfolio of over ₹2 trillion and combined assets under management of ₹5.9 lakh crore across asset management and insurance businesses.
As reported by PTI, Aditya Birla Capital shares closed 0.41% higher at ₹352.70 per share on the BSE on Wednesday, against a 0.16% gain on the benchmark. This performance compares favorably to the broader market gains. However, the stock has declined 65.12% over the last 12 months and fallen 1.29% year-to-date. The preferential issuance price of ₹356.02 per equity share represents a premium to Wednesday's close of ₹352.70 per share on the counter.
