The addition of 18 million metric tonnes (MMT) of new capacity will bring APSEZ's total domestic portfolio to 671 MMT, advancing the company's target of reaching 1 billion tonnes of cargo throughput by 2030. As reported by Business Standard, CEO Ashwani Gupta stated that "With Paradip, APSEZ's network grows to 16 ports and terminals across India's 11,000-kilometre coastline, strengthening our ability to deliver integrated port, logistics and marine solutions through the country's most comprehensive transport infrastructure platform." The project will be developed under the public-private partnership model and will add mechanised dry bulk capacity to the company's portfolio, supporting the company's integrated port, logistics and marine solutions platform.
Under the 30-year concession project, APSEZ will develop CQ-I and CQ-II berths with mechanised cargo handling systems, deep-draft berths and large-scale storage infrastructure. According to Business Standard, the Paradip terminal will boost APSEZ's capacity to handle rising volumes of coal, limestone, and other dry bulk commodities, while expanding its reach across core industrial and manufacturing clusters in eastern and central India. The project strengthens APSEZ's presence on the East Coast and expands access to one of India's most important industrial and mineral-rich hinterlands. The company has now received the Letter of Award for the project, formalizing its position as the highest bidder.
Paradip is India's second-largest major port and a vital bulk cargo gateway located in a mineral-rich hinterland amid major steel plants. As reported by Business Standard, the project strengthens APSEZ's presence on the East Coast and expands access to one of India's most important industrial and mineral-rich hinterlands. With this addition, APSEZ's network grows to 16 ports and terminals across India's 11,000-kilometre coastline. The company currently has 653 MMT of cargo-handling capacity and its network includes ports and terminals across India's west, south and east coasts, along with international ports and integrated logistics operations.
With a current cargo handling capacity of 653 million tonnes per annum, APSEZ commands 27% of India's total port volumes, positioning it as India's largest private port operator. On the operational front, Adani Ports reported strong cargo performance in August, with cargo volumes increasing by 19% to 50 MT compared to the previous year. According to CNBC TV18, the company's all-round cargo growth was driven by dry cargo and containers, which increased by 25% and 15% respectively from the year-ago period. This robust operational performance provides a strong foundation for the company's expansion initiatives and demonstrates the effectiveness of its integrated port solutions strategy.
