Adani Energy Solutions (AESL) has secured a significant transmission project through competitive bidding, winning the Network Expansion Scheme in Western Region to Cater to Pumped Storage Potential near Satara (up to 4500 MW) - Part A. According to reports from CNBC TV18, Business Standard, and The Economic Times, the project involves an estimated capital expenditure of ₹4,700 crore and was awarded through the Tariff Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) process, where AESL emerged as the lowest bidder. The project will transmit up to 4,500 MW of renewable and storage power to support the growing pumped storage ecosystem in the Satara, Pune and Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). As per the company's press release, the project will facilitate evacuation of up to 4.5 gigawatt (GW) of pumped storage potential in Maharashtra and strengthen the inter-regional transmission corridor between Western and Southern grids.

The transmission project will be executed under the Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) Satara Power Transmission Ltd and is scheduled for completion within 36 months. The project will add 562 circuit kilometres (ckm) of transmission lines and 9,000 MVA of transformation capacity to AESL's portfolio. The infrastructure includes the establishment of a 765/400 kV substation at Satara, a Kolhapur-Satara 765 kV double-circuit transmission line, and augmentation of the Kolhapur pooling station, along with associated transmission infrastructure. The project will facilitate the evacuation of renewable energy generated in Karnataka to major load centres in Maharashtra, strengthening the inter-regional transmission corridor between the Western and Southern grids.
The project will enable the evacuation of renewable energy generated in Karnataka to major load centres in Maharashtra, supporting the state's renewable energy integration goals. Following the addition of this project, AESL's transmission order book now stands at approximately ₹85,000 crore, providing robust revenue visibility over the coming years. According to Morgan Stanley, the newly secured project will add 562 circuit kilometres (ckm) of transmission lines to Adani Energy's portfolio, along with 9,000 MVA of transformation capacity. The project will create a vital transmission backbone to support both renewable energy evacuation and energy storage deployment, strengthening power flows between southern and western India. Pumped storage projects are increasingly seen as critical to India's clean energy transition, helping utilities store surplus renewable energy and deploy it during peak demand.
