Augmont Enterprises shares reached a record high of ₹1,062.20, hitting 10% upper circuit for the second consecutive session on Tuesday, September 29, following the company's strategic partnership with National Stock Exchange of India to promote Electronic Gold Receipts. According to Mint, the stock has witnessed a significant rally of over 24.47% in a week and generated 17% returns since its listing on August 31. The sustained momentum reflects strong investor confidence in the EGR initiative and the company's strategic positioning in India's gold market ecosystem.
The National Stock Exchange of India has expanded its partnership with Augmont Gold Tech to expand the organised trading of gold by bringing the company on board as a key partner for its electronic gold receipts initiative. According to reports from The Hindu BusinessLine, ANI, PTI, The Economic Times, and Business Standard, this partnership is part of efforts to deepen India's formal gold market and make gold investment more accessible to investors across the country. The partnership was officially announced on September 26 in Mumbai, marking an important step in building a deep and vibrant ecosystem for Electronic Gold Receipts.
Under the partnership, Augmont, a subsidiary of Augmont Enterprises, will provide technical and operational support for the development of the EGR product and help strengthen the digital framework for its creation and extinguishment. As reported by The Hindu BusinessLine, ANI, PTI, The Economic Times, and Business Standard, the partnership is expected to make it easier to convert physical gold into EGRs and convert the receipts back into physical gold within the regulated ecosystem. According to Mint, the collaboration is specifically aimed at enabling the seamless conversion of physical gold into EGRs and the reconversion of EGRs into physical gold within a regulated framework. Augmont Whole-Time Director Ketan Kothari stated the company would combine its experience in refining, sourcing and distribution of gold with NSE's technology and market infrastructure to make the conversion between physical and electronic gold 'simpler, faster and more transparent'.
EGRs are electronic securities that represent ownership of physical gold stored in SEBI-accredited vaults and held electronically through depositories. According to the exchange, each receipt is backed by physical gold and can be traded on the exchange, allowing gold to be integrated into the formal financial system. Under the proposed framework, physical gold stored in SEBI-accredited vaults can be represented through electronic receipts that can then be held in demat form and traded on the exchange. The arrangement gives investors a regulated route to participate in the gold market without dealing with physical bullion at every stage. NSE Chief Business Development Officer Sriram Krishnan described the empanelment of Augmont as an important step in building a deep and vibrant ecosystem for Electronic Gold Receipts, emphasizing that the partnership would simplify the creation and extinguishment of EGRs and make gold investment more accessible to investors across the country.
The partnership is expected to support price discovery, improve market participation and strengthen trust among jewellers, refiners, traders and institutional investors. As reported by The Hindu BusinessLine, ANI, PTI, The Economic Times, and Business Standard, NSE expects the partnership to support greater participation in EGRs and position gold as a modern, integrated asset class within capital markets. Mint reports that EGRs enable investors to hold gold electronically with assured quality and easy conversion between physical and digital forms, allowing participation in the gold market in smaller denominations with greater liquidity and flexibility similar to other financial assets held in demat accounts. According to Mahesh M Ojha, VP Research & Business Development at Kantilal Chhaganlal Securities, Augmont Enterprises has shown strong buying momentum and the stock could continue to remain positive if it sustains above the ₹980 level, with target levels of ₹1,090, ₹1,120 and ₹1,150-plus.
