The latest data shows LPG prices at ₹968 per kg in Kolkata as of August 1, 2026, with no change from the previous day. This represents the current market rate for domestic LPG consumption in the city. The price stability comes after the recent commercial cylinder price reductions, indicating a more balanced market environment for both commercial and domestic users.
The prices of 19-kg commercial LPG cylinders have been reduced by over ₹200 in Delhi and Kolkata, providing relief to restaurants, hotels and other commercial establishments. According to The Hindu BusinessLine, the revised rates came into effect starting August 1. The price reduction amounts to ₹202 in Delhi and ₹209 in Kolkata. Following the latest revision, a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder will now cost ₹2,872.50 in Kolkata and ₹2,728 in Delhi. The current market rate of ₹968 per kg for domestic LPG in Kolkata reflects the stabilized pricing environment after the commercial cylinder cuts.
The latest reduction marks the second consecutive monthly price cut for commercial LPG cylinders. As reported by The Hindu BusinessLine, the July 1 revision had already lowered commercial LPG cylinder prices by up to ₹183.50 across major cities. In the July revision, commercial LPG cylinder prices were reduced by ₹183.50 in Delhi and Lucknow, ₹181.50 in Chandigarh, ₹174 in Kolkata, and ₹173 in Patna. Following that revision, the price of a 19-kg commercial cylinder in Delhi had fallen to ₹2,930 from ₹3,113, while the Kolkata price was reduced to ₹3,081.50 from ₹3,255.50. The current August revision builds on this trend, with the ₹202 reduction in Delhi and ₹209 reduction in Kolkata representing additional relief for commercial users.
Alongside commercial LPG reductions, oil marketing companies have also lowered the price of the 5-kg Free Trade LPG (FTL) cylinder by ₹13, bringing the retail price in Delhi to ₹808.50. This additional cut provides further relief to commercial establishments that use smaller cylinders for their operations. The latest reduction in commercial LPG prices comes after a series of price changes in recent months, including a ₹183.50 reduction in July and earlier increases of ₹60 per cylinder on March 7 and ₹195.50 in April amid tensions in West Asia.
The consecutive reductions come after commercial LPG prices had witnessed multiple hikes in recent months amid elevated global energy prices triggered by tensions in West Asia. According to reports, the Centre also eased LPG supply restrictions for commercial and industrial users after fuel availability improved. The government restored 50 per cent of supplies to customers whose allocations had been curtailed to prioritise domestic household consumption. During the conflict in West Asia, the government had invoked the Essential Commodities Act to divert C3-C4 hydrocarbon streams exclusively for LPG production, while directing oil marketing companies to maintain detailed data on commercial and industrial LPG consumers to improve supply planning. Recent softer Saudi LPG prices have helped ease cooking gas losses for state-run oil marketing companies, with losses on subsidised domestic LPG cylinders easing to around ₹475-490 per cylinder in July compared to significantly higher levels earlier.
