
South Indian Bank has set an ambitious target of reaching ₹3.25 trillion in total business within three years, as reported by Business Standard. The bank is currently at approximately ₹2.3 trillion and aims to achieve this milestone through focused expansion strategies. According to SIB Chairman Jose Kattoor, the growth strategy emphasizes digital banking transformation, retail asset focus, and expansion into western India markets including Gujarat and Maharashtra. The bank is completing 100 years in 2029 - an occasion to identify and push towards critical milestones, with the goal of becoming a fully digital bank.
The bank has appointed a new CEO from a public-sector bank background, marking a shift from private sector leadership. As reported by People, the selection committee evaluated over 300 bankers and narrowed down to approximately 12 candidates, focusing on candidates with diverse experience across banking verticals and strong risk management capabilities. The new CEO brings nearly three decades of experience and has headed the Bangalore circle of Canara Bank, which manages ₹2.37 trillion in business with around 600 branches and 5,000 staff. The selection committee prioritized candidates who have worked in as many banking verticals as possible and seen banking end-to-end, with the successful candidate having governance experience including roles with FIMMDA, SWIFT, and as a board member of Karnataka State Financial Corporation.
SIB's current account savings account (Casa) ratio stands at 32.98% of total deposits, significantly outperforming many banks that struggled with Casa growth in recent quarters. According to People, the bank aims to maintain this strong liability management while focusing on treasury and fee income optimization. The bank's cost-to-income ratio currently stands at 55%, which management aims to reduce to improve operational efficiency. The bank has achieved two CEOs from the private sector since 2021, who did exceedingly well, resulting in all metrics being near perfect today.
The bank is positioning itself as a fully digital bank as it approaches its 100-year milestone in 2029, as reported by Business Standard.
