State Bank of India has introduced an online application facility for deceased claim settlement, eliminating the need for physical branch visits. According to reports from Zee News, nominees and legal heirs can now file claims through the official SBI website by navigating to the deceased claim section, filling out online forms with account holder details and relationship information, uploading required documents, and submitting applications with reference numbers for tracking purposes.
As reported by Zee News, eligible applicants include nominees registered with bank accounts, legal heirs when no nominee exists, and executors or administrators of estates with proper legal documentation. The required documents include death certificates issued by appropriate authorities, account passbooks or details, nominee ID and address proofs, legal heir or succession certificates when no nominee is on record, and executor/administrator documents for legally handled estates. All documents must be valid, legible, and properly certified to avoid delays in processing.
According to the report, SBI verifies death certificates and checks nomination details in bank records. Claims with registered nominees are processed faster than those without nominees, who may require legal heir certificates for eligibility determination. After verification, the bank credits claim amounts directly to claimants' accounts or issues payments according to bank policy, with timelines varying based on document verification requirements and legal documentation involvement.
As reported by Zee News, SBI's updated claim settlement rules aim to reduce complexity and provide quicker access to necessary funds for families handling financial affairs of deceased loved ones. The bank recommends maintaining up-to-date nominee details on personal accounts to avoid future delays, preparing legal heir documentation when no nominee exists, and following up with bank branches or online reference numbers if processing takes longer than expected.
