State Bank of India, the country's largest lender, announced the inauguration of a cybersecurity centre of excellence on Monday to strengthen its ability to anticipate emerging threats and stay ahead of the evolving cyber landscape. According to reports from The Economic Times, the new facility will focus on emerging digital safety and capability areas, including threat intelligence, cyber defence, digital forensics, malware analysis, ethical hacking, fraud analytics, AI security, and quantum-safe technologies. This development comes as part of a broader trend in the financial sector toward enhanced cybersecurity infrastructure.
The lender also revealed that 1.81 lakh of its 2.45 lakh employees completed cybersecurity e-learning in FY26. As reported by The Economic Times, this represents a significant portion of SBI's workforce receiving cybersecurity training, demonstrating the bank's commitment to comprehensive digital safety preparedness across all levels of its operations. The training initiative aligns with the broader industry focus on addressing cybersecurity skill gaps in the financial sector.
The new cybersecurity centre, named 'CyRIS', will concentrate on emerging digital safety and capability areas that are critical for financial institutions operating in the current technological environment. According to the official statement reported by The Economic Times, these focus areas include advanced threat intelligence capabilities, robust cyber defence systems, and specialized expertise in areas such as digital forensics and malware analysis to enhance the bank's overall cybersecurity posture. The facility's establishment reflects the banking sector's response to increasing digital financial threats and the need for specialized cybersecurity infrastructure.
