HDFC Bank has launched two new savings accounts variants - 'Max for Seniors' and 'Max for Her', offering tailored benefits for senior citizens and women respectively. According to reports from The Hindu BusinessLine, Mint, and Business Standard, India's largest private sector bank introduced these accounts as part of its commitment to offering enhanced security and convenience features for specific customer segments. The accounts are now available under the bank's Savings Max portfolio, designed to cater to the specific banking requirements of senior citizens and women by focusing on core aspects such as financial security, financial management, lifestyle-related benefits and enhanced banking convenience.
The 'Max for Seniors' account includes cyber insurance cover up to ₹25,000 for digital fraud protection, hospitalisation cover of up to ₹1 lakh, additional 0.5% interest on FD, doorstep banking facility, airport lounge access, complimentary health check-up, accidental death cover on debit card of up to ₹3.19 crore, and waiver of AMC for the first year on Demat Account. The 'Max for Her' account features hospitalisation cover of up to ₹1 lakh, accidental death insurance cover of up to ₹10 lakh on the account, 50% discount on locker charges, airport lounge access, and auto-sweep facility that shifts surplus balances into fixed deposits to potentially earn higher returns. Both accounts offer FD-like higher returns on surplus savings with Auto Sweep facility and personal accidental death cover on Debit Card of up to ₹3.19 crore.
The launch comes amid increasing participation of these customer groups in India's banking ecosystem. According to government data cited by Business Standard, India's senior-citizen population is expected to reach around 230 million by 2036, about 15% of the country's population. On the other hand, women currently hold 39.2% of bank accounts and contribute 39.7% of total deposits, highlighting their increasing participation in the country's banking ecosystem. This demographic shift presents significant growth opportunities for banks like HDFC Bank to expand their customer base and move beyond traditional savings accounts.
For senior citizens who frequently visit bank branches, the doorstep banking feature could be valuable, while the bundled health and cyber insurance may provide additional protection. Women looking for a primary banking relationship may find value in the bundled accidental insurance, discounted locker facility and lifestyle benefits, particularly if they already maintain the required account balance. However, customers should evaluate minimum average balance requirements, eligibility conditions for insurance benefits, and whether similar benefits are available through existing cards or policies before switching accounts. As per Business Standard, the bundled benefits deliver value only if customers actively use them, making careful evaluation essential for potential account holders.
Ashish Parthasarthy, Group Head – Branch Banking, Payments, Treasury, Liability Products, Marketing, Virtual Channels and Infrastructure, HDFC Bank, stated that these new products reinforce the bank's commitment to offering solutions that enhance security, convenience, and long-term financial well-being. As reported by The Hindu BusinessLine, Mint, and Business Standard, the bank is focused on delivering customized solutions that address changing customer expectations while improving security, convenience and financial well-being. Within the bank's Premium Speciale Savings suite for Senior Citizens and Women, customers can enjoy elevated benefits including enhanced cyber cover, curated lifestyle privileges, and a range of added advantages designed to further enrich their overall banking experience.
