Vijay Anandh is set to take over as MD and CEO of City Union Bank from May 1, 2026, as N Kamakodi steps down after a 15-year tenure. According to reports from The Hindu BusinessLine, Anandh emphasized that the bank will continue focusing on trust, ease of banking, and customer service while maintaining its core strengths in MSME and secured lending. He stated that the bank is not looking to bring in any drastic changes to a system that has seen robust growth over the last 15 years, noting there are exciting times ahead for the industry and they do not want to disrupt the status quo.
Under Kamakodi's tenure from 2010-11 to 2025-26, the Kumbakonam-headquartered bank achieved remarkable growth metrics. As reported by The Hindu BusinessLine, the bank saw 6x growth in deposits, over 7x growth in advances, and a 15-year CAGR of 14% in business. The net worth grew at 17% CAGR to over ₹10,000 crore, while the branch network expanded from 240+ to 1,000 locations. The bank's focus on relationship-oriented banking helped it transition from a largely manual and closed network to serving a much wider customer base.
According to The Hindu BusinessLine, MSMEs currently make up 55-60% of CUB's total advances, while gold loans account for 29-30% of the portfolio. Anandh, who holds over 28 years of banking experience, previously served as business and collections head for retail asset products at RBL Bank and was first appointed as Executive President at CUB in 2023. He emphasized building on the bank's core strengths in MSME, gold loans, and secured retail while leveraging technology across operations.
As reported by The Hindu BusinessLine, the bank recently reported net profit of ₹360 crore for Q4FY26, representing a 25% growth compared to ₹288 crore in Q4FY25. Net interest income came in at ₹786 crore, marking a 31% year-on-year jump. For the full fiscal year 2026, net profit reached ₹1,326 crore, an 18% increase from ₹1,124 crore in FY25, with net interest income at ₹2,830 crore, registering a 22% jump. The bank anticipates around 18% growth in FY27 after reporting 23-24% business growth in FY26.
According to The Hindu BusinessLine, Anandh highlighted that the bank has established systems for retail banking and has increased focus on cybersecurity amid growing threats from AI models. He stated that the bank is well equipped in terms of systems and expertise to handle these challenges. The incoming MD emphasized building on the bank's core strengths while maintaining its relationship-oriented banking approach that has been a key differentiator during its transformation over the past decade.
