Bank branches across India will observe 11 days of closures throughout June 2026, with the holiday schedule varying significantly from state to state based on regional festivals, local observances, and government notifications. According to reports from The Hindu BusinessLine, Mint, The Times of India, and Zee News, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) issues the official calendar, and with scheduled holidays this month — including second and fourth Saturdays and all Sundays — customers are advised to plan branch visits, cheque submissions, and cash requirements well in advance. As per The Hindu BusinessLine, all scheduled and non-scheduled banks will observe public holiday on second and fourth Saturdays throughout the month. The RBI calendar confirms 11 total bank holidays in June 2026, though these holidays vary across different states, meaning banks across the country will not be closed on all 11 days simultaneously. Banks are open through Saturday, June 6, as it falls on the first Saturday of the month, with only Sunday, June 7, marked as a holiday for the week. The RBI calendar covers all Sundays, the second and fourth Saturdays of every month, and select national and regional public holidays.
Mizoram faces the highest number of closures this month, with YMA Day on June 15 and Remna Ni on June 30 adding two additional shutdowns on top of the standard Saturday closures. As reported by The Hindu BusinessLine, Mint, The Times of India, and Zee News, banks in Aizawl will remain closed on June 15 in view of Raja Sankranti, while banks in Bhubaneshwar will also be closed on this day due to the occasion of Raja Sankranti. Banks in Vijayawada will remain closed on June 25 in view of Moharrum. Banks in Shimla will remain closed on June 29 in view of Sant Guru Kabir Jayanti, and banks in Aizawl will remain closed on June 30 in view of Remna Ni. According to The Times of India, bank operations will be shut on June 26 across major cities including Agartala, Aizawl, Belapur, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Chennai, Hyderabad, Jammu, Kanpur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, New Delhi, Patna, Raipur, Ranchi and Srinagar to observe Muharrum. Punjab will see branches closed on June 18 for Sri Guru Arjun Dev Ji's Martyrdom Day, while those in Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, and Rajasthan will observe a closure on June 17 for Maharana Pratap Jayanti. It is worth noting that holidays can differ by state, depending on local festivals and regional observances, and customers should verify closures with the RBI's official list or by calling their nearest branch.
Digital banking services including UPI, net banking, and mobile apps, along with ATM access, will remain unaffected on all holidays. According to reports from The Hindu BusinessLine, Mint, The Times of India, and Zee News, this ensures continued access to banking services even during branch closures. For time-sensitive transactions, using NEFT, RTGS, IMPS, or UPI is recommended to avoid delays — these services operate round the clock, including on all gazetted holidays. As per The Times of India, customers can use UPI or respective bank's app to make payments and receive money from others, with these services working round the clock whether banks are open or not. Additionally, fund transfer requests can be made using NEFT/RTGS transfer forms, demand draft request forms and chequebook forms. Credit cards, debit cards, and ATM cards can also be obtained through card services, while services such as account maintenance forms, setting up standing instructions, and applying for a locker are also available during holidays. However, services that require physical presence, such as cheque processing, issuance of demand drafts and large cash transactions, will not be available on non-working days. Branch closures do not affect most digital banking services, with UPI payments continuing to function normally on holidays, covering money transfers, bill payments, and QR code transactions at merchants. NEFT, RTGS, and IMPS transfers are also available round the clock, including on Sundays and gazetted holidays, and ATMs stay operational for cash withdrawals, balance checks, and mini statements.
