Bandhan Bank has launched Cyber Cop, a nationwide cyber fraud awareness campaign under its corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme in association with prominent film director Rohit Shetty. According to reports from The Economic Times, the initiative aims to promote safer digital behaviour and help citizens respond more effectively to ever-increasing cyber frauds. The campaign comes amid a sharp rise in cybercrime across India, with a Bandhan Bank spokesperson emphasizing that cyber fraud represents one of the most pressing challenges in India's digital ecosystem. With 'Cyber Cop', the bank aims to build awareness that helps people 'pause before they act, verify before they trust, and report promptly'. Filmmaker Rohit Shetty has joined the campaign to strengthen its reach, bringing a strong cultural connect through his well-known 'cop universe' while reinforcing the idea that cyber threats are now part of everyday digital life.
The campaign addresses a significant cybersecurity challenge, with government-linked data showing ₹22,495 crore in losses reported through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal in 2025, while more than 24 lakh complaints were registered during the year. As reported by The Economic Times, a survey by BioCatch found that 84% of banking leaders in India reported higher fraud losses over the past year, covering 1,440 fraud management, anti-money laundering (AML), and risk and compliance leaders across 25 countries. India was found to be among the markets most concerned about financial fraud and AI-enabled threats. The campaign specifically targets this growing threat through its comprehensive approach to cyber safety education.
According to TransUnion's H1 2026 Top Fraud Trends Report, India's suspected digital fraud rate reached 7.1% of all digital transactions in 2025, almost double the global average of 3.8%. As reported by The Economic Times, this highlights the country's increasing exposure to sophisticated online fraud even as digital payments continue to expand rapidly. The campaign aims to simplify cyber safety through the simple practice of 'Pause. Verify. Report.' and directs citizens to report incidents via the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal and the 1930 helpline. Cyber Cop comes as artificial intelligence reshapes the financial sector, bringing a fresh wave of fraud-related challenges for lenders.
Through films, awareness messages and public outreach, Cyber Cop seeks to encourage people to follow the 'Pause. Verify. Report.' practice and report cybercrime through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal and the 1930 helpline. According to The Economic Times, the initiative is a CSR initiative by Bandhan Bank, presented by Hindustan Times and implemented by Aident Social Welfare Organisation. The campaign encourages citizens to think before sharing personal or financial information, verify suspicious requests, and report cyber fraud immediately. Through this comprehensive approach, the campaign focuses on awareness, safe digital behaviour, and timely reporting of cyber fraud to support wider public awareness efforts and empower individuals to make safer decisions while engaging with digital financial services.
